Province I School for Deacons Opens Successor Dean Search

Province 1 School for Deacons is a nine-year-old collaborative education initiative of six New England dioceses of The Episcopal Church: Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Western Massachusetts.

Postulants preparing for diaconal ministry engage in our 24-month academic and formation program structured around requirements for ordination to the Diaconate as set forth in The Constitution and Canons, Title III, Canon 6.

Eight areas of study include the Holy Scriptures, Theology, Church History and Anglican Tradition & History, Liturgics, Homiletics, Ethics and Christian Moral Theology, World Religions & Spirituality, and Faith-Rooted Organizing. The curriculum is attentive to particular competencies set forth by the Association for Episcopal Deacons. Faculty members are current and former seminary and university professors and scholars. Online courses are complemented by in-person quarterly Formation Weekends.

The school’s Dean oversees curriculum and day-to-day administration as detailed in the accompanying position description, and with the support of an Advisory Council. The position is quarter-time, defined as an average of 12-hour work weeks.

A letter of interest with accompanying resumé may be sent to The Ven. Derek Scalia at deacons@province1.org by Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
